Here Are All The Three Six Mafia Members Who Died

Three Six Mafia is an American hip-hop outfit from Memphis, Tennessee. Originally called "Backyard Posse,' they formed in 1991.
The group is known chiefly for their dreadful lyrics, covering topics from substance use to provoking nightclub disturbance. However, they are also famed for exploring and popularizing Crunk sound and being the first rap artists from Memphis to go platinum.
Three Six Mafia even won an Academy Award for Best Original Song with It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp, used in the movie, Hustle & Flow.
Though the gang never expanded beyond the core six members, some left to pursue solo careers, and even passed away.
On that latter point, here we have a list of Three Six Mafia Who Died. However, we also talk about their original and current members too. In addition, you can also discern about their discography and their reunion tours.

If a Three Six Mafia Member Dies on New Year's Day, then the year is off to a bad start. That was how 2023 started when news of Gangsta Boo's passing spread.
Sadly, she is not the only member from the acclaimed southern group to have passed. Here are all of them:
- Lord Infamous
- Koopsta Knicca
- Gangsta Boo
Lord Infamous
Ricky Terrell Dunigan (November 17, 1973 – December 20, 2013), better known as Lord Infamous was born in Memphis, Tennessee.
He was a founding member of Three Six Mafia, which he started with DJ Paul (his half-brother) and Juicy J in the early 1990s.
Known for his dark and macabre lyrics, his raps explored subjects like Satanism, mass murder, torture and the occult, often incorporating themes of the devil into his work.
He was brought into the group by family member Paul in the early 90s. On the solo front, he released his debut solo album, Lord of Terror, in 1994, and his final solo effort, Voodoo, in October 2013.
As for his work with the Three Six, Infamous left the group in 2005 due to legal reasons. Lord Infamous died on December 20, 2013, at the age of 40 because of a heart attack.
Koopsta Knicca
Robert Cooper Phillips (April 27, 1975 – October 9, 2015), more familiar by his stage name Koopsta Knicca or simply Koopsta, was an American rapper.
He became a member of Three Six Mafia in the early 1990s and collaborated on every album from the group's first album, Smoked Out, Locked Out (1994), onwards. In addition, he has also released many solo projects and collaborations.
He left the group after the release of the album in 2000 due to his incarceration, which made him unable to make shows and videos.
Knicca suffered a stroke on October 5, 2015, and passed away on October 9, 2015.
Gangsta Boo
Lola Chantrelle Mitchell (August 7, 1979 – January 1, 2023), publicly known by Gangsta Boo, was an American rapper.
She was discovered by the founder of the group DJ Paul and became the first and only female member of the Three Six Mafia.
Boo made her first appearance on DJ Paul's mixtape Volume 16: 4 Da Summer Of '94, released in 1994.
In addition, she appeared in all of Three Six Mafia's early releases and gained instant notoriety with her shoot-from-the-hip, rapid-fire rap flow on the group's 1995 debut album Mystic Stylez, which became a cult classic.
After the group released "Choices: The Album" in 2001, she left the group to focus on her solo career, and released various solo albums which only added to her fame.
Throughout her career, she collaborated with notable artists like Eminem, Gucci Mane and more. In recent years, she reunited with her former Three Six Mafia bandmates in The Mafia 6ix.
Tragically, Boo passed away on January 1, 2023, at the age of 43 at the Memphis home, with the cause of her death still officially unconfirmed but reportedly related to drugs.
Three Six Mafia Original Members
Let's talk about the original members of Three Six Mafia who are listed below:
- DJ Paul
- Juicy J
- Lord Infamous
We previously wrote about Lord Infamous. So, here is some information about rest.
DJ Paul
Paul Duane Beauregard (born January 12, 1977), more known by his stage name DJ Paul is an American DJ, record producer, and rapper from Memphis, Tennessee.
Paul started his career in the late 1980s as a DJ and released several solo tapes as well as three with Lord Infamous under the name, Serial Killaz.
Eventually, Paul and Infamous joined forces with Juicy J and formed Three Six Mafia, achieving nationwide success in the late 90s and early 2000s.
He has also released several solo albums, including A Person of Interest, Underground Vol.17: For Da Summa, and Power, Pleasure and Painful Things.
Paul has produced for different artists like Lil Jon, Ludacris, and 8ball & MJG.
Juicy J
Jordan Michael Houston III (born April 5, 1975), known professionally as Juicy J, is an American rapper and record producer, also from Memphis, Tennessee.
He has released ten studio albums with Three Six Mafia and also several solo albums, the most successful being Stay Trippy, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 Chart.
From 2009 to 2011, Juicy J moved away from the group, prioritizing his solo endeavor. During this time, he frequently collaborated with Wiz Khalifa, emerging on his mixtapes and releasing some of his own, including Blue Dream & Lean.

Later in 1994, Koopsta Knicca and Gangsta Boo joined the group, and in 1995 Crunchy Black also became a member.
Lord Infamous left in 2005, due to a breach of contract with Sony. He was forced to end work with Three Six Mafia, leaving the group on good terms. Eventually, he reunited with DJ Paul for Paul's 2009 solo album Scale-A-Ton.
Koopsta Knicca left Three Six Mafia in 2000 for two reasons: One was that he wanted to pursue a solo career, and the other factor was that he was arrested on charges of domestic violence, assault, and aggravated burglary.
He was unable to make shows, videos, and photo shoots due to these legal issues which ultimately led to his departure.
Gangsta Boo exited the gang in 2001 because of financial disputes and problems that arose during the promotion of her second album, Both World *69. She also wants to focus on her solo career.
In 2013, she joined the Three 6 Mafia spin-off group Da Mafia 6ix and was significantly featured on their debut mixtape 6ix Commandments. She quit the group in 2014.
Crunchy Black departed in 2006. The exact reasons for his departure remain unclear.
He mentioned feeling that DJ Paul and Juicy J changed their behavior towards him, including making him pay for his expenses. He also cited internal issues in the group members as a reason for his exit.
In 2012 DJ Paul and Juicy J ended Three Six Mafia. The reason for this is also not entirely clear, but after listening to the different interviews by both it is possible that a combination of factors, including substance abuse and creative differences, contributed to the groups dissolution.

Three Six Mafia Reunion
It was shocking and unbelievable when Three Six Mafia disbanded in 2012. Fans desperately hoped for a reunion for many years.
Luckily, the group reunited in 2019 for a trio of concerts, their first since taking a break. They announced about reuniting for an upcoming tour called the Return of Three Six Mafia.
The tour began in October 2019 in their hometown of Memphis, and proved to be successful. Later, Billboard confirmed their concerts in various U.S cities.
Paul and Juicy expressed their excitement about the reunion and hinted at the possibility of a future Three Mafia album.
At the time of the reunion, two members, Lord Infamous and Koopsta Knicca, had already passed away. Surprisingly, Crunchy Black and Gangsta Boo did not return, and the reason behind their absence is unclear.
It is possible that they were either unavailable or chose not to participate in the reunion for various reasons. After reuniting in 2019, the only remaining members of the group in 2023 are DJ Paul and Juicy J.
