1. Explore The Two Sides Of Old Zagreb
Despite being one of the oldest capitals in the region, Zagreb may have the fewest inhabitants. For most of its history, Zagreb was actually two distinct communities rather than one city: merchants and craftspeople lived in the expansive Gradec to the west, while clerics typically occupied Kaptol in the east. The unification of Zagreb did not occur until 1851.
Today's Zagreb still has two separate 'halves'. The Lower Town is renowned for its retail districts and cosmopolitan cafes, while the Upper Town has a more historical air. Both towns have their monuments and sites of interest.
