Here Is What We Know About Pantera Original Band Members And Their Tour Plans For 2023

Pantera band current members names and ages are Rex Brown (58), and Phil Anselmo (54). These two are permanent members of the band.

Bassist Rex Brown and vocalist Phil Anselmo who have both been crucial members of Pantera since 1982 and 1986 respectively are important aspects of what made Pantera so successful and loved throughout the years.

After Pantera was disbanded in 2003, Brown and Anselmo both got involved with other bands for short durations of time. Both have been members of a band, Down at some point. Phil Anselmo, known widely as the voice of Pantera for years is still involved.

Phil also released two of his own albums with his backing band in 2013 and 2018 respectively.

Aside from Rex and Phil, the band also has two touring musicians who fill in the role of guitars, backing vocals, and drums.

56-year-old Zakk Wylde on guitar, and backing vocals, and 60-year-old drummer Charlie Benante are the current touring members of Pantera, occupying the role which once used to be owned by brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.

Most prominent Pantera past members include Dimebag Darrell and his brother Vinnie Paul Abbott. Dimebag and Vinnie are the founding members of the band.

Vinnie Paul, the eldest of the two brothers was born on March 11, 1964, in Texas. He is regarded as one of the best drummers ever. Vinnie was active in the industry from 1976 until his passing away on June 22, 2018, aged 54.

Dimebag Darrell

His younger brother, the legendary Dimebag Darrell was born on August 20, 1966, in Ennis, Texas. He started playing guitar when he was just 12 years of age.

Regarded by many as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, he was featured in Rolling Stone's 100 greatest guitarists of all time, coming in at 92, and claimed the 19th spot on Louder's 50 greatest guitarists of all time.

One of the most influential musicians, he was tragically shot down in December 2004 while performing at a nightclub in Columbus, Ohio, resulting in him dying on the spot.

Who's who of the music world gave tribute to the face of Pantera, with his idol Eddie Van Halen even giving away his iconic bumblebee guitar to bury it with Darrell at his resting place.

Pantera's Far Beyond Driven has twelve songs. Far Beyond Driven is the seventh studio album by the Texas-originated group.

Eleven of these twelve songs were written and composed by the four band members, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, Phil Anselmo, and Rex Brown.

The twelfth track in the album, Planet Caravan is a cover of the popular Black Sabbath song from the 1970 album, Paranoid.

Pantera reunion tour 2023 is set to commence on May 6, 2023, in Panama City, Flordia. The 2023 slate will end on November 10 in Detroit, Michigan.

All of the destinations for the Pantera 2023 tour are set in the North American region. With Zakk and Charlie filling in the roles of the Abbott brothers, Pantera will be joined by the Lamb of God as guests in their reunion tour.

After the band was disbanded in 2003, Billboard reportedly came out with the news back on July 13, 2022, regarding the reunion of the two crucial members of the band, Paul Anselmo, and Rex Brown. Artist Group International signed them for a reunion tour in 2023. 

After 21 years, Pantera came back to perform for the first time in December 2022 in Mexico, albeit without Dimebag and Vinnie. The band recently returned from performing in Japan at Osaka and Tokyo on March 25th and 26th respectively.

The 2023 Pantera reunion tour lineup consists of 36 shows across the United States and Canada.

Before the tour was set to commence on May 20 with a show at Welcome to the Rockville music festival in Daytona, Florida. However, the band has added an extra show on May 6th in Panama City, Florida.

The North American reunion tour is set to conclude on November 10 in Detroit, where the band will be playing at Ford Field. In between these shows, Pantera also has few shows in Europe where they will be playing in Denmark, Belgium, France, and Germany, among other places.
