Members of Young Money

Lil Wayne and his lifelong friend Mack Maine started Young Money Entertainment in 2005. The record label is an imprint under Cash Money Records.

Here's more into the five well-known personalities of Young Money:

Lil Wayne

The real mastermind behind this record label, Lil Wayne's superhit career as a solo artist, is a well-known fact. He has released 13 studio albums so far.

Wayne mostly collaborates with fellow Young Money artists. As he is credited to be one of the two main founders of this label, and initially served as the company's President.

Wayne left his position to Cortez Bryant in 2007 while Maine took over the head position two years later.

Meanwhile, Wayne continues to look after the label's artists and provide them with enough guidance for work.

Mack Maine

Maine is mainly known for contributing words to Wayne's hit singles How to Love and Got Money rather than his solo career as a rapper.

As a childhood friend to Wayne, he pitched in co-founding Young Money and has continued to serve as its President. Apart from this collaborative label, Maine has founded his own label, Soothe Your Soul Records.

Maine is also a producer/booker for Wayne’s new show on Apple Music, Young Money Radio, as of 2020.

Nicki Minaj

The Barbie, Nicki Minaj, was discovered by Wayne in 2009. Since then, she has remained faithful to his label and reached the peak of her career under them.

All of her chart-topping four albums have been released under Young Money, and the same tradition will follow for her upcoming album, Pink Friday 2. Her fifth studio album is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2023.

Moreover, her style of calling out "Young Money" in between her songs could've made the label much known among the audience.

Lil Twist

One of the famous rappers with Lil in their name is Lil Twist. Moreover, his success with the label is what makes him the ultimate star among his peers.

He was just 12 years old when Wayne signed him under his wing. On top of starting a mainstream success, he was already a Dallas-famous rapper by the age of 10.

He appeared on the label's two compilation albums, We Are Young Money and Young Money: Rise of an Empire, both chart-hitting rap pieces.

Reginae Carter

Another young yet notable member of this never-ending crew is Reginae Carter. She is the eldest child of Wayne among his four kids.

While she has yet to release a full album under her home label, she contributed to the song Famous as a featured artist in 2018. Famous was the 11th track of her father's 12th studio album, The Carter V.

She even joined in the viral dance challenge on Uproar, another single from the same album. As of 2023, She and her mother, Toya, are the main cast of their reality TV show, Toya & Reginae.

In addition to her media career, she is also an actress with much experience since 2019. She has appeared on Boxed In, I Got a Story to Tell, Terror Lake Drive, and many other TV series and movies, per IMDb.

Birdman

The real name of rapper Birdman or Baby is Bryan Williams. He is one of the two co-founders of Cash Money Records, operating under Universal Music Group.

At the start of the label's foundation, he recruited young talents such as Lil Wayne, B.G., and Juvenile. The magic worked, and Wayne founded his own label under the wing of Birdman.

The legacy of Baby continues, with many rappers under Wayne forming their own labels and recruiting talented future stars.

Ronald "Slim" Williams

Slim is the elder brother of Birdman and the other co-founder of Cash Money. Hence, he is the executive producer of nearly all of Cash Money's artists' albums.

Unlike his rapper brother, he is solely a record executive and entrepreneur. Thus, his business knowledge has reached the oil industry as well.

Fun Fact: Slim is the father of the former NFL running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis. BenJarvus played with the New England Patriots from 2008 to 2011 and the Cincinnati Bengals from 2012 to 2013.

Blueface

The viral internet sensation rapper Blueface is rather known for his romantic turmoil rather than his musical ventures.

However, his offbeat rapping made him a quick star, and he secured a deal with Cash Money in 2018. Under the Birdman-led label, the Respect My Cryppin rapper has released one album, Find the Beat, in 2020.

He continues to be a part of this label but has mainly focused on live performances and his tussles with his two baby mamas.

DJ Khaled joined the label in 2010 but left five years later when Birdman and Lil Wayne were in a rift. He had signed under both Cash Money and Young Money.

Meanwhile, he also heads his own label titled We the Best Music Group. He often uses We the Best Music on his tracks as a way to promote.

Drake

( Source : twitter )

The Young Money/Cash Money duo lost Drake, another precious star, in 2019. While the Hotline Bling singer debuted with these two labels, he left them for good.

He had indeed instigated speculations of the motif in his 2018 track Is This More, where he rapped, "soon as this album drops, I’m out of the deal."

After leaving, he released his next two albums, Certified Lover Boy and Honestly, Nevermind, with OVO and Republic.

As of 2022, he has signed a $400 million or higher record deal with UMG, the parent company of both Birdman and Wayne's labels. However, the deal does not include making music for his former two companies, per Complex.

Tyga

The Rack City rapper debuted in 2011 with his album Careless World: Rise of the Last King under Young Money and Cash Money.

Things were going well with his international fame when things got heated in 2014. In an October tweet that year, he lashed out at Young Money for holding his new album hostage despite its complete state.

( Source : reviewjournal )

He then released The Gold Album on Spotify as he was also on good terms with Cash Money Records. Though the album flopped, he left the two labels and signed with Kanye West's GOOD Music imprint.

Meanwhile, there were talks that Wayne was angry at Birdman for letting go of Tyga.

Young Money Cash Money Records

The term, Young Money Cash Money Records, goes hand-in-hand with the industry. However, they are two different record labels handled by different board members.

While they have different identities, Young Money was born out of Cash Money. As mentioned above, Lil Wayne was an artist managed by Birdman's Cash Money.

When he found much success and experience, he started Young Money and had a green go of Birdman and Slim.

Hence, Cash Money, which was founded in 1991, is the parent company of Wayne and Maine's Young Money, founded in 2005.

As a parent and subsidiary of music labels, they are affiliated with Republic Records as their certified distributor. But among these operational paths, both Young Money/Cash Money are a part of Universal Music Group.

The media company is often referred to as Universal Music or UMG. Hence, Young Money/Cash Money are two record labels that comprise a fraction of the hundreds of other records that fall under UMG's management.

Meanwhile, the distributor company Republic Records is one of the main divisions of UMG alongside Interscope Records, Capitol Music Group, Island Records, Def Jam Recordings, and whatnot!

But with Republic Record's backing up, Cash Money flourished back in the 90s, while Young Money contributed to most rap sales in the 2010s.
