Camping is an adventurous way for families to bond and spend time together

Camping is one of the favorite hobbies of millions of people around the world. For campers, food is often the most common concern, second to only the accessibility of washrooms.

Especially, if you are planning on camping with the family, you may want to spend the trip bonding with your loved ones instead of spending most of your time preparing meals.

To save time from cooking the meals, you can either pack your food from home or prepare easy-to-make dishes. The former option isn't a viable one as you may be spending two to three days camping and eating pre-cooked frozen food for multiple days or weeks could ruin the trip.

Today, we take a look at top 10 easy meals that are easy to prepare and delicious to taste.

These tips can also be useful to travel vloggers who spend most of their time on the road.

1) Grilled Pizza

Grilled Pizza is an easy-to-make and tasty dish best suited for camping trips with kids. It is a fun item to make and doesn't require much effort or resources.

You'll be needing to bring in a few ingredients though and a campfire is also a requisite. Buy some pizza crusts along with pizza sauce, pepperoni, cheese, veggies, and more, according to your taste.

Place the crust (you can also use flour tortillas or flatbread) on an aluminum foil, and add the cheese, toppings, and other items as required.

In a family-setting, you can let the kids prepare their individual pizzas by adding the toppings of their choice. Grill it for a few minutes and your pizza is ready to serve.

You'll need four ingredients to prepare this:

  • Fish fillets
  • Lemon
  • Salt
  • Olive Oil

You can also add a few veggies as per your choice.

Place the fish fillet in tin foil and pour some olive oil. Add a few drops of lemon and a pinch of salt.

Then, place the dish on the grill and let it cook for 15-20 minutes until the flesh is dark in color. While you can eat this dish as a snack, add rice and a few potatoes, and you won't have to worry about dinner.

Sandwich prepared at home before leaving for a camping trip can serve as a tasty snack for the road or a lunch dish if you prefer not to light a fire in the daytime.

There are a variety of options you can choose from, including a pimento cheese sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, or deli meat sandwich. You can also prepare meatless sandwiches using only cheese, tomato, onion, and veggies (optional).

Further, you can also make club sandwiches, nut butter sandwiches or, if you want to prepare them at the site, grilled sandwiches are the best options. You'll need to pack some shelf-stable meat if you plan to prepare the sandwiches at your camping site.

The sandwiches, if prepared before the trip, should be stored in a cooler to avoid going bad.

Despite its name, the breakfast burrito doesn't need to be served only in the morning.

It is a variety of American dishes prepared by wrapping cheese, meat, sausage, bacon, and/or fried onions in a tortilla wrap.

Place a tortilla wrap in a piece of aluminum foil. Put the ingredients (sausage, bacon, onion, etc) on the tortilla and wrap it to form a burrito shape.

Then put the burrito in a camping stove for 5-10 minutes or wait until the cheese melts. Place it out of the fire but wait a few minutes for the cheese to cool down before serving the burrito.

You can make a vegan burrito using only rice, veggies, and a few more condiments. Additionally, you can also substitute the meat by using eggs.

Chicken Salad is an easy dish to prepare and a delicious treat to eat.

It is also one of the best ways to get your kids involved and busy as it doesn't require the use of fire if you have pre-cooked chicken. And, if you have multiple kids on the trip, get them to compete against each other to see who prepares the best salad.

Use leftover chicken or pre-cooked chicken chunks for the preparation of this dish. Pour the chicken chunks into a bowl or plate, whichever is available. Mix it with ranch dressing or mayonnaise as per your choice.

Or, you can let the children choose a combination of condiments or mix-ins. Award the kid who makes the best chicken salad.

You can eat the salad as a snack or use it to make sandwiches too; the choice is yours.

7) Ham Pickles

Ham roll-ups with pickles, or simply ham pickles, are prepared as a side dish rather than the main course.

Likewise, they can also be served as an appetizer or a snack. And, it is one of the easiest dishes to make, taking less than five minutes to prepare.

The ingredients required to make this dish include deli ham, pickle spears, and cream cheese (softened).

Cut the pre-cooked ham into thin slices. Then, place the slices flat on a surface. Then, apply a thin layer of cream cheese to each slice of ham.

Put the pickle on top of the sliced ham and roll it over and over until it forms a jelly roll-like shape. Also, use the cream cheese under the flap to seal the item.

Now, you can cut the ham into chunks or serve it whole. Place it in a resealable plastic bag or container and store it in a cooler if you plan to save it for later.

Alternatively, you can prepare the ham roll without pickles by using ingredients like minced onion, tomato, chives, or more.

Also, you can use other forms of deli meat like sliced turkey or roast beef instead of ham. But, remember, you'll no longer be able to call it "ham pickles" if you leave out the ham.

8) Banana Canoe

Banana Canoe is a dessert dish for camping that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Preparing the dessert requires a simple process. However, as fire is involved, it is advised not to let the kids prepare this without adult supervision.

As its name suggests, a banana is sliced to resemble a canoe. Other ingredients of this dish include M&Ms (or any other milk chocolate), granola, chopped nuts, and mini marshmallow.

First, place a banana on a thick piece of aluminum foil. Cut out a slice along the longer end without peeling the banana first.

Put a tablespoon of M&Ms, nuts, granola, and marshmallow each. Pack the top part of the sliced banana and stuffings into a thick layer of aluminum foil to avoid getting the dish burnt.

Now, place the whole thing on top of a grill and wait for 10-12 minutes. Then, get it off the grill and let it cool down for a few minutes before enjoying the delicious dessert.

9) Stew Or Bean Soup

Bean soup or stew is a dish prepared by using a single pot.

You will require canned beans, water, tomatoes, and some vegetables to prepare a vegetarian stew. Also, you can add pieces of diced ham, bacon, chicken, or sausage if you prefer a non-vegetarian stew.

First, boil water in a pot; the amount of water required to boil depends upon the number of people eating the dish.

Once the water starts boiling, reduce the fire and add canned beans to the water. Also, pour a can of tomatoes, and vegetables into the mixture. Let the stew cook at a low temperature for 30 minutes to an hour.

While the stew is being cooked, add pepper, salt, and other spices according to your taste.

If you prefer a non-vegetarian stew, add the above mentioned diced ham, chicken, or sausage. If you are going with the meat option, the stew might require for a longer time than the vegetarian option.

10) Grilled Burger

A grilled burger is another tasty food convenient for camping as it doesn't require a lengthy process.

Use ground beef to make patties by adding onion soup mix and barbecue sauce. Alternatively, you can also use chicken or store-bought patties.

Mix the three ingredients properly for better flavor. You can outsource this task to kids who will be more than excited to stick their hands into the mixture to combine the ingredients.

After the patties are prepared, adult supervision is required to finish the rest of the cooking. Let an adult handle the task of grilling the patties as the kids ready the condiments and buns.

When the grilling is complete, put the patties between two buns to prepare the burger. You can add slices of onion, tomato, lettuce, and/or cheese to add flavor to the burgers.
