Often for entertainment or competition marching bands are categorized by function, size, age, instrumentation, and type of show they perform.

Students participate in marching band in the fall semester, which is an extension of the curricular band program. First, the students receive TEKS-based music instruction during their classes. Then, Outside of normal school hours, they need to rehearse the skills they learned.

The marching band performance includes all football games, University Interscholastic League competitions, other competitive festivals, and appearances at special events. They also compete in Spring ISD at a very high level and perform music with a high degree of complexity.

Allen High School with the largest Marching Bands in America is a public, co-educational secondary school in Texas. It was established in 1910.

The marching band's name is The Allen Eagle Escadrille with a membership of over 800 students. They play for the 6A football team, participate in competitions, and perform in parades and other venues.

In 2009, the Escadrille was invited to perform in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii. Also performed in Pasadena, California in the 2006 and 2016 Rose Parade.

The band received the Sudler Shield Award in 2004. It also won the 4A State Marching Band Competition in back-to-back years in 1987 and 1988.

It was the only high school band to be chosen to play the Dublin Lord Mayor Ball along with the 1995 and 1999 Texas Gubernatorial Parades and the 1997 Macy's Thanksgiving parade in the New York City.

It has an enrollment of around 1400 students. Pendleton Heights is home to two concert bands: Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.

In 2018, the Marching Arabians performed Spintronics and for the first time in school history, they qualified for the ISSMA Class B State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium placing ninth in their class.

It is the only high school established in 1885 in the Zionsville Community School Corporation.

In 1970, the name was changed to Eagle-Union Community School Corporation formed by the merger of Eagle and Union township schools. Thus, the band's name is Zionsville Marching Eagles.

Under Extracurricular activities, ZCHS has two competitive show choirs, the mixed-gender Royalaries and the all-female Choralairies.

Both have won regional competitions in their respective divisions and Choralairies has won their division in all four of their 2016 competitions.

The Carmel High School Marching Bands were Indiana State Fair Band champions in 1984 and ISSMA State Champions in 1990, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2018 and 2022.

The band was invited to play on the USS Missouri along with Hawaii's Royal Band in 2007.

In 2008, it won the caption for best music and later got selected to play in the 2011 and 2022 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It is located in Avon, Indiana. The school has a marching band, an orchestra, choirs, show choirs, a dance team, and a theatre program.
