Zack De La Rocha: Lead Singer Of Rage Against The Machine Ethnicity

Zack De La Rocha: Lead Singer Of Rage Against The Machine Ethnicity is mixed. Zack De La Rocha is a mix of various ethnicities and heritage.
All told, the singer comes from Mexican-American, African, Sephardi Jewish, German, and Irish heritage. Among these various ethnicities, Mexican-American comes off the strongest as that's the one both of his parents share.
The music of Rage Against the Machine is highly informed by Zack's multicultural background as the band is known for their highly politicized and heavily leftist views most blatant in the lyrics. Simply put, Zack has a lot to say about a lot of things and he is not afraid to put it on wax.
Though they only released albums from 1992 to 2000, in less than a decade, Rage created an output that has them still named among the best bands of their generation.

Zack De La Rocha Ethnicity And Parents
Zack De La Rocha Parents are Robert "Beto" de la Rocha and Olivia Lorryne Carter. Both Robert and Olivia are mixed too.
Due to their mixed heritage, Zack de la Rocha ethnic background has been a topic of debate. The Rage singer was born to Robert and Olivia on January 12, 1970, in Long Beach, California.
Born Zacharias Manuel de la Rocha, the singer would only live with both his parents for the first six years of his life. They would get divorced when he was six years old, and Zack moved from Long Beach to East Los Angeles, to the city of Irvine, with his mother.
According to the singer, Irvine was a heavily racist city, and people of color, especially Mexican-Americans, would be heavily targeted and ridiculed.
Roberto "Beto" de la Rocha
Roberto de la Rocha is an American painter, muralist, and graphic artist. Roberto is 85 years old and was born on November 26, 1937.
Though he is Mexican-American, he is mixed like his son and carries some Sephardi Jewish and African heritage. Roberto is famous for being a popular muralist and a member of Los Four, which in turn is famous for being the first Chicano art collective to ever be exhibited at a museum.
Roberto was born to Isaac de la Rocha, an agricultural laborer and a member of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation. Isaac lived from 1909 to 1985 and in turn, was the son of Jose Isaac de la Rocha Acosta.
Jose Isaac was a soldier in the Mexican Revolution who lived from 1882 to 1920. As for Roberto, through his art, he is credited for being one of the influences in reestablishing the Day of the Dead celebration in Los Angeles.
Olivia Lorryne Carter
Olivia Carter is the mother of the Rage Against the Machine lead singer. Like her son and ex-husband, she is also mixed.
Zack's mother was born to Manuel Garcia Urias, a Mexican-American man, and Olive Pearl Fleming, a woman with German and Irish heritage. Olivia has a PhD in anthropology.
In fact, one of the main motives behind Olivia and Zack moving to Irvine after her divorce from Roberto was due to the fact that she was attending the University of California, Irvine for her Ph.D. However, she was aware of the racism that her son was facing.
According to a Rolling Stone article from November 25, 1991, Zack would tell his mother about the various inflammatory incidents that happened to him, but as she was trying to finish up her Ph.D., her hands were tied.
Original Members Of Rage Against The Machine
Rage Against The Machine Band Members are Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk. The role of each band member was as follows:
- Zack de la Rocha - Lead Vocals
- Tom Morello - Guitars
- Tim Commerford - Bass and Backing Vocals
- Brad Wilk - Drums and Percussion
The group has had this incarnation for their entire career. Their heyday was from 1991 to 2000. They then briefly reunited from 2007 to 2011, and have now been active since 2019.
Tom Morello
Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is 58 years old. Tom was born on May 30, 1964.
Unlike Zack, Tom was born in New York City but grew up in Libertyville, Illinois. Due to his amazing guitar abilities and iconic use of the Wah-Wah pedal, the Rage lead guitarist might just be the most popular member of the band, even more so than Zack.
Tom founded RATM alongside Zack after he met the singer following the dissolution of his previous band, Lock Up. The two shared an intense love of politics and music.
Outside of music, Tom is a very educated individual and went to Harvard, where he has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies. He is currently married to his wife, Denise, and has two sons with her named Rhoads, who was born in 2007, and Roman, who was born in 2011.
Tim Commerford
Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford is 55 years old. Tim was born on February 26, 1968, in Irvine, California.
The bassist is one of the most visually recognizable members of the band as he has a pair of tattoos that cover both of his shoulders and biceps which have been blacked out with Japanese symbols. As Tim often plays shirtless and appears the same in music videos, his tattoos have made him instantly recognizable.
Aside from playing for Rage, Tim has played in many bands like Audioslave, where he played with Tom and Brad, alongside Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Prophets of Rage, Future User, and Wakrat.
As for his personal life, Tim was married to his longtime girlfriend Aleece Dimas from 2001 to 2018. They have two sons named Xavier and Quentin together.
Brad Wilk
Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk is 54 years old. Brad was born on September 5, 1968, in Portland, Oregon.
Prior to joining RATM, Brad also played for the popular 90s Rock band Pearl Jam during the tour for their debut album. Aside from Rage, he has played in Audioslave and Prophets of Rage with bandmates Tim and Tom.
Brad also played drums on Black Sabbath's final album 13, which was released back in June 2013. The drummer is highly proficient in a variety of genres and clearly has many connections in the industry.
Though not as identifiable as the rest of his band members, Brad is best known for his long hair which has been lovingly incorporated by some fans of the band.

Rage Against The Machine Tour 2023
Rage Against The Machine Tour 2023 is not happening. The band canceled their planned 2023 North American tour.
On October 4, 2022, the band took to their website to explain to their fans that they would cancel their tour for the next year. The reason behind the cancelation was due to the fact that Zack tore his tendon, which left him unable to perform.
According to his statement, he had a severe tear in his left Achilles tendon and only 8% of it was intact, with even that portion severely compromised. As such, he and the rest of the band decided to cancel their 2023 North American shows.
There has been no news as of yet when and if the tour, or any tour for that matter, would commence. Fans can do little else but wish for the singer's speedy recovery.
