John Is 67 Years Old

John was born on January 31, 1956, in Halloway, London, England to a working-class family. He was born to Eileen Mary and John Christopher Lydon.

Both of his parents were immigrants from Ireland, however, Lydon has stated that he views himself as strictly British and calls himself proper London working class. The area he grew up in was largely impoverished during his youth and housed many Irish and Jamaican immigrants. 

Lydon has talked at length about the discrimination he faced as a young boy. Back then, despite being accepted more than the Jamaican immigrants, the Irish weren't seen as any better, and the singer has often talked about how stones were thrown at him due to his heritage.

Sadly, the same could be said on the other side too, as when he went to his mother's native home, County Cork during the holidays, many of his Irish relatives and more would make fun of him because of his prominent English accent.

Nora Is 80 Years Old And 14 Years Older Than John

Nora was born on November 6, 1942, in Munich, Germany. She was born to Franz Karl Maier, from the prestigious Maier family.

Her father also worked as the editorial manager of Der Spiegel magazine and ran a newspaper called Der Tagesspiegel. He was a prominent figure in publishing during his day. 

Though her childhood was significantly more comfortable than Lydon's, she shared his love of music and showed an interest in music from an early age. However, soon after she finished her schooling in Munich, she would go on to work for her father's media company.

Franz Karl Maier passed away on April 13, 1984, and upon his death, his daughter, Nora, inherited a fortune of $120 million.

John Lydon wife Nora Forster is a famous publishing heiress. However, she is best known for her work in rock music.

Though she'd go on to make a name for herself in rock in London, she'd already been dabbling with working as a music promoter while in Munich. She opened up her home to many of the prominent figures in rock and roll in the 60s and luminaries like Jimi Hendrix and esteemed bands like Yes and Wishbone Ash not only were her guests but also worked with her. 

During this time, Nora got married to and subsequently had a child with the German singer, actor, and painter, Frank Forster. Their marriage was brief, and in the latter half of the 1960s, Nora decided to leave her marriage and her husband and move to London.

For the rest of the 60s and 70s, Nora would become known as Punk's Mummy and help in her daughter, Ari Up's musical pursuits, especially with her band, The Slits, and also those of her future husband, John Lydon, and other prominent punk bands like The Clash. 

Nora Is Also A Former Actress and Model

Nora, aside from being the patron saint of Punk, also had a career as an actress and a model. She's had small roles in various films.

Her most prominent acting features are a bit role as a concubine in the 1965 movie, Genghis Khan. It was directed by Henry Levin and started Stephen Boyd and Omar Sharif as the titular Genghis Khan.

She was also in a 1970 German TV movie called Mein schönes kurzes Leben which was written and directed by Klaus Lemke.

Nora and John have been happily married for over 43 years. The punk icons got married in 1979. 

The pair first met in 1975, in West London at the clothing store of fashion icon, Vivian Westwood's called Sex, on King's Road. When the two met, Lydon had only recently started the Sex Pistols with the help of the band's notorious manager, Malcolm McLaren. 

Forster would go on to financially back the Sex Pistols and many other punk bands. She and Lydon would start dating around this time, and within four years, the two would end up married.

Lydon and Forster have been notoriously quiet about their actual marriage ceremony, but both have insisted that they are husband and wife for the entirety of the almost half-century of marriage. The two live in Venice, California, where they moved in the early 1980s, but also have a residence in London.

Nora has been the love of Lydon's life for the bulk of his time in the spotlight, but their love has recently been publicized to great lengths after Lydon talked about his wife's Alzheimer's disease. He revealed that she was suffering from the disease in 2018, stating that Nora had already reached the mid-stages. 

In an interview with the British magazine, Mirror, in June 2020, Lydon stated that he had become a full-time carer for his wife who has been struggling with the debilitating effects of dementia. He's stated that she has begun to forget things and that as time goes on, her brain has started to store less and less memory.

However, in a heartbreaking statement, he said that regardless of what she forgets, she can never forget him.

John and Nora never had any kids together but he became the step-parent of Nora's daughter Ari Up. Ari is Nora's daughter from her first marriage.

Ari is best known for being the lead singer of the short-lived but influential all-female English punk rock band, the Slits. She started the band in 1976, at the young age of 14.

Due to her mother's proclivity of providing shelter to young and poor musicians at her home, Ari grew up with a taste for music and also a lot of freedom. As stated above, her mother also did her best to nurture and support Ari's musical talents. 

Sadly, Ari would pass away on October 20, 2010, in Los Angeles, California, due to a serious illness that many believe is cancer.

John And Nora Adopted Ari's Three Children

John and Nora adopted Ari's twin children when she was still alive. They later ended up adopting her third child after she passed away.

Ari's twin sons are named Pedro and Pablo, and they were both fathered by Glenmore "Junior" Williams. When they were young, their parents took them to the jungle regions of Indonesia and Belize so the family could live among indigenous people.

Ari's youngest child, Wilton, was born in 1994, to a different father, who'd unfortunately been shot and was deceased by the time he was born. Nora and Lydon became the legal guardians of Pablo and Pedro in 2000 after Ari stated she couldn't look after them.

According to an interview with the Guardian, Lydon stated that the boys initially didn't even know how to read and write. In the same interview, Lydon stated that he and Nora raised them, and eventually Ari's third child, with a lot of love.
